REGISTRATION APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

NAME

The goat’s name must contain a prefix, which is your registered herd name.  Example:  Rocky Ridge Farm Jill (Rocky Ridge Farm is the herd name).  The application for Registered Herd name is included with the Membership Application.

All kids should be registered with the herd name of the owner at the time of their birth.

If you purchase a bred doe, when the kids are born they are registered under your herd name since you are the owner at the time of their birth.

For “Found” goats (with unknown or limited history) fill out the registration application with as much information that you know.  If you know the herd name or person who owned the goat when born, you can use their IFGA registered herd name or their last name if they are not members ONLY if their signature is on the “Born the property of” line.  If their signature is not available then your IFGA registered herd name must be used and you will sign on the “Found goat purchased by” line.  Found goats from unknown herd backgrounds should be registered using your herd prefix.

Make sure you sign the application on the appropriate line for “Found” goats rather than the “Born the Property of” line.  All goats being registered must contain a herd prefix

CATEGORIES OF REGISTRATION
(New registration categories will be effective starting 1-1-2008.  See the Announcements section to view the changes.)

Premium
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 4 photos: one of each side, an extra side shot, and a photo showing the goat down in a myotonic state.
3. The goat's sire and dam are registered (any category)

Regular
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 3 photos: one of each side plus an extra side shot
3. Goat is wooden-legged or stiff, but does not readily faint. Does only may be registered in this category.
4. If the "down" photo can be obtained after being registered as Regular, the doe may be upgraded to Premium, but the lineage requirements of Premium category as stated above must also be met.

Heritage (New Class starting 1-1-06)
This category will ensure that once the cut-off dates mentioned in the "Premium" category have been reached that there is not a loss of available genetics because of the lineage requirements. Basically, this category includes any goat that would otherwise be classified as Premium except that it does not have the required registered parents/grandparents. To be registered in this category requires the following:
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 4 photos: one of each side plus an extra side shot and the "down" photo

MARKS/CHARACTERISTICS

Here list distinguishing features such as wattles, beards, skirts (long hair from hips and flanks), blue eyes, face markings (star, blaze, snip), etc.

PHOTOGRAPHS

A registration requirement is that clear photographs accompany each application as follows:

PREMIUM – 1 photo in a fallen down state (or showing obvious stiffness for does), along with standing photos, 2 of one side (can be same photo) and one of the opposite side.

REGULAR – 2 standing photos of one side and 1 standing photo of the opposite side are required.  Registration certificates will have photos affixed to them.

If you are going to register your goat in the Premium Category:  Please, 4 pictures are needed.

Tips:

1.   If using a Digital Camera please print pictures out on high quality photo paper using a good quality color printer.  Please don’t use Polaroids, they separate when they are cut to affix them to the registration papers.

2.   Space for the photo on the registration papers is a MAXIMUM of 3˝ inches wide by 3 inches high.  The actual goat in the photo should be a MINIMUM of 1˝ inch high from the top of the head to the feet to be properly seen in the photo.

3.   Be sure there are no obstacles between you and the goat.  Markings on the goat cannot be properly seen if the goat is behind a fence or has another object partially in front of it.

4.   No other goats should be in the background and the handler should be excluded as well if at all possible.

5.   Take pictures on a sunny day with the sun behind the camera.  Dark and shadowy pictures are difficult to see.

6.   Position the goat to get a FULL SIDE VIEW.  Do not take the photo with the goat at an angle.  Markings must be clearly visible.

It is recommended that any animal possessing the following genetic faults not be registered or used for breeding:  cryptorchidism, hernias (both scrotal and umbilical), undershot jaws, overshot jaws, multiple teats in bucks, multiple orifices in teats, hermaphroditism.

TRANSFER APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

When a registered goat is sold, the seller must fill out this form.  IF the goat sold is a doe, and she is bred, the bottom half of the form, which is a Breeding Memo form must also be completed by the seller.
