New IFGA Categories of
Registration
Starting in 2006
Premium
Beginning 1-1-06, to be registered in this category requires:
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 4 photos: one of each side, an extra side shot, and a photo showing
the goat down in a myotonic state.
3. The goat's sire and dam are registered (any category)
Beginning 1-1-08, to be registered in this category requires:
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 4 photos: one of each side, an extra side shot, and the
"down" photo
3. The goat's parents and grandparents are all registered (any
category)
Regular
This category will remain as is:
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 3 photos: one of each side plus an extra side shot
3. Goat is wooden-legged or stiff, but does not readily faint. Does
only may be registered in this category.
4. If the "down" photo can be obtained after being registered
as Regular, the doe may be upgraded to Premium, but the lineage
requirements of Premium category as stated above must also be
met.
Heritage (New Class starting 1-1-06)
This category will ensure that once the cut-off dates mentioned in the
"Premium" category have been reached that there is not a loss
of available genetics because of the lineage requirements. Basically,
this category includes any goat that would otherwise be classified as
Premium except that it does not have the required registered
parents/grandparents. To be registered in this category requires the
following:
1. Proper conformation per breed standard
2. 4 photos: one of each side plus an extra side shot and the
"down" photo
Clarifications:
1. Up until 1-1-06, goats continue to be registered under current rules.
2. Goats already registered are "grand fathered" in; this
proposal does not affect their status.
3. After 1-1-06, a "found" goat could be registered Heritage
(or Regular for does that don't meet the down photo requirements). Its
offspring could be registered Premium if conformation and photo
requirements are met, up until 1-1-08.
4. After 1-1-08, a "found" goat could be registered Heritage
(or Regular for does that don't meet fallen photo requirements). Its
offspring would have to be registered Heritage (or Regular for does that
don't meet fallen photo requirements). Its grand-offspring would be
eligible for Premium class provided conformation and photo requirements
are met.
5. It is true that "found" does can still be registered
Regular even after 1-1-08. However, it is more desirable to register
into the Heritage class (if the "down" photo requirements can
be met) because the Heritage class is actually a "premium"
animal that simply doesn't meet the lineage requirements as required in
Premium class.
